OGA organises a new edition of the CATEDRA Group Congress, its Technology Advisory Council
The V CATEDRA Group Congress will feature the participation of international researchers in Artificial Intelligence and Operational Research, the presentation of the second edition of the global reference manual on advanced optimisation, Handbook of Heuristics, and OGATHON 4.0 as its main highlights.
Seville will become the benchmark for applied innovation on January 21, 22 and 23, 2026, with the celebration of the V CATEDRA Group Congress, the OGA Technology Advisory Council made up of 14 international researchers and experts in Artificial Intelligence and Operational Research. This annual meeting consolidates the collaboration between academia and business to promote advanced solutions in strategic sectors and the application of real technology transfer.
V CATEDRA Group Congress Agenda
V CATEDRA Group Congress will take place on January 21, 22 and 23, 2026 at the Hotel Giralda Center, Seville.
- Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd January will be devoted to internal sessions with strategic discussions between the OGA team and members of the CATEDRA Group, addressing disruptive trends and applications.
Some of the highlights include presentations by Miguel Ángel Vega Rodríguez, Professor of Computer Architecture in the Department of Computer Technology and Communications at the University of Extremadura and member of the CATEDRA Group, in the session “Multi-objective Optimisation in Biology and Biomedicine”; and the presentation by Ángel A. Juan Pérez, Professor of Data Analysis and Operational Research at the Universitat Politècnica de València and principal investigator of the consolidated research group ICSO Meta at the CIGIP research centre, in the plenary session “Hybrid intelligent algorithms: from classical metaheuristics to sim-learnheuristics and agile optimisation with transformers”.
These two days of internal work will also include sessions on OGA‘s R&D&I projects, such as the SMARTIMING Project, aimed at the automatic optimisation of timetables and schedules for academic planning using advanced mathematical techniques; technical workshops; and two sectoral panel discussions: one focusing on the aerospace sector and the other on defence, with the participation of representatives from leading entities and organisations.
- The congress programme also includes events open to the public, such as the presentation of the book Handbook of Heuristics – Second edition (Springer Nature), considered the reference manual on heuristic and metaheuristic techniques applied to the optimisation of complex processes, which includes the chapter “The OGA Company. The Role of Heuristics in Logistic Consulting Services“, which analyses the impact of OGA‘s methodology in the field of logistics and operational planning.
This event will take place on Thursday, January 22nd, at 7:30 p.m., at the Hotel Giralda Center, the conference venue, and will be open to the general public and the media, subject to prior registration.
Handbook of Heuristics: The ‘bible’ of optimisation
Published in 2018 by Springer Nature, an international leader in scientific and technical publishing, the Handbook of Heuristics is an essential academic reference work that summarises the state of the art in techniques for solving complex problems using heuristics and metaheuristics.
El chapter “The OGA Company. The Role of Heuristics in Logistic Consulting Services ”, included in the second edition of the Handbook of Heuristics launched in October 2025, analyses the impact of OGA methodology in the field of logistics and operational planning, where problems known as Vehicle Routing Problems (VRP), among the most studied in Operational Research, are addressed in the daily practice of transport, distribution and retail companies.
“The combination of advanced heuristics, evolutionary metaheuristics and machine learning techniques allows us to build extremely valuable solutions that transform operational decisions into strategic advantages”, explains Alfredo García Hernández-Díaz, Optimisation SME at OGA and coordinator of its Technology Advisory Council, the OGA CATEDRA Group.
- On Friday, January 23rd, it’s time for OGATHON 4.0, OGA‘s tech challenge that pits multidisciplinary teams against each other to solve real-world problems in Artificial Intelligence, Operational Research, and Cybersecurity.
This fourth edition, which has established itself as an event that brings together talent and innovation, is open to registered teams and the media.
The V OGA CATEDRA Group Congress is shaping up to be a dynamic space for collaboration and knowledge, designed to promote innovative projects that will set OGA‘s roadmap for 2026. This meeting not only seeks to overcome technological challenges, but also to generate a real impact on customers and society, thanks to the effective transfer of knowledge provided by the CATEDRA Group, OGA’s Technology Advisory Board.
